Prospector tent

Our prospector tents: a sustainable investment for demanding adventurers
Our canvas prospector tents aren't the cheapest on the Canadian market—they're the most durable. When purchasing a canvas prospector tent, a crucial factor to consider is the longevity of the materials used.
A premium canvas, designed to last
At Habitation Wigwam, we have chosen a premium polycotton canvas, made of 60% polyester and 40% cotton , with a thickness of 13 oz . This specialized fabric costs between 30 and 50% more than the 10 oz 100% cotton canvas generally found on the market.
Why this choice? Because it offers many advantages:
-
More wear-resistant
-
Lighter for transport
-
Quick drying after rain or humidity
-
Less susceptible to fungi and mold
Designed for the most extreme Canadian conditions
A wise choice for outdoor enthusiasts
Unlike cheaper alternatives, our 13 oz polycotton canvas provides:
Exceptional durability
Excellent insulation
Increased resistance to humidity
We don't just sell tents: we offer real shelters designed to accompany adventurers, campers and explorers in their most ambitious projects.

How to Choose the Right Prospector's Tent
1. Size and capacity
Consider the number of people and equipment to be accommodated:
10′ x 12′ – Ideal for 1 to 2 people with a stove and minimal equipment
12′ x 14′ – Perfect for 2 to 4 people or extra storage space
14′ x 16′ – Ideal for family camping, group hunting or expeditions
Need more space?
Consider a custom model or additional options like extra doors or a vestibule.
2. Canvas material:
POLYCOTTON compared to 100% COTTON
Sustainability
✅ Polycotton offers a significantly longer lifespan.
â›” 100% cotton has a shorter lifespan.
Weight
✅ Polycotton is lighter, making it easier to handle.
â›” 100% cotton is heavier.
Water resistance
✅ Polycotton dries quickly, resists mildew and is well suited for humid environments.
â›” 100% cotton absorbs more moisture, which can be a problem in the long run.
Fireproof
✅ Polycotton is pre-treated to be flame resistant.
â›” 100% cotton is often untreated.
Cost
✅ Polycotton has a slightly higher cost, but offers an excellent return on investment due to its durability.
✅ 100% cotton is cheaper to buy, but can wear out faster.
3. Essential features to consider
✔ Stove Compatibility – Reinforced chimney hole for safe heating.
✔ Ventilation – Windows with mosquito nets to reduce condensation.
✔ PVC skirt – Protective barrier against drafts and moisture.
✔ Portability – Weight and ease of transport to consider for wild camping.
